ScamShield, a mobile application jointly developed by Singapore's Crime Prevention Council and the Government Technology Agency, has emerged as a potent tool in the fight against telecommunication scams. Upon receiving a message from an unknown contact, ScamShield employs sophisticated algorithms on your device to assess whether the message is potentially fraudulent. It then sends you a push notification, alerting you to the potential scam. Unlike its iOS version, which directly moves suspected scam messages to the junk folder, the Android version informs users of the suspicious nature of the message but does not automatically relocate it.

The app's functionality extends beyond mere message filtering. It includes a robust caller identification feature, which automatically checks incoming calls against a database of known scam numbers. If the number matches any in the database, ScamShield promptly blocks the call, safeguarding you from potential fraud. ScamShield's impact is substantial. Since its inception, it has shielded users from over 5.8 million scam messages and blocked nearly 29,000 scam numbers on iOS alone. By October 2022, approximately 6.5 million messages had been flagged as potential scams, with around 12,900 scam phone numbers blacklisted and blocked by the app. These statistics underscore ScamShield's effectiveness in mitigating the risk of telecommunication fraud.
